1.TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:
I recently moved to Houston with my now fiancé and our cat-child so we could be closer to my family. I played softball at the University of La Verne in Southern California and got my degree in Business Administration. I’m currently an account manager in the National Accounts unit for a large commercial insurance broker and hope to get involved in coaching softball again when the time is right!
2. WHAT IS ONE THING WE MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU OR BE SURPRISED TO FIND OUT?
I was the SCIAC softball Athlete of the Year in my senior season and I hold the clean and vertical jump records at my school. The vertical jump record is honestly pretty pathetic compared to all the other sports BUT STILL.
3. WHAT MADE YOU START CROSSFIT?
I started CrossFit as off-season training for softball. One of my friends who I played travel ball with growing up literally FORCED me to go a class with her when I was home for the summer after my freshman year. I always hated conditioning so getting me to go workout was a struggle. Luckily CrossFit changed that!
4. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CROSSFIT?
I love learning new skills and constantly being able to push myself towards new goals outside of just ‘losing weight’ or ‘looking better’. I also love the community. Nothing bonds people like almost dying together every day 😊
6. WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CROSSFIT MOMENT?
When we did strength & conditioning testing at my University my senior year, I was able to do 3 strict pullups! As the biggest girl on the team that was a pretty big deal. Granted, that was before I had a full-time job and was able to workout twice a day (once at CrossFit and once at school) AND go to practice. I have faith I can get back there someday though!!
7. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/LIFT? LEAST FAVORITE?
My favorite lift is the snatch. It was definitely the hardest to learn but I’ve watched soooo many videos of really good lifters and of myself and always try to improve the technique every time we do it! My least favorite is running ☹
8. WHAT ARE YOUR CROSSFIT GOALS? HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?
There are so many! First and foremost, I want to be able to get through weeks of workouts without pain from old injuries bothering me. This is going to require more work on my part and will be an ongoing process. I want to be able to do pullups and toes to bar again. I’m pretty far from this one right now but know I can do it if I put the work in. I also want to continue to PR my lifts but I don’t necessarily have set goals for that at this point.
9. WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT HIPPO HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM?
CrossFit hippo has been such a great place for me to call home! Moving to a new place is never easy but I was glad to know that wherever I found a good gym, I would find good community 😊 Coming to Hippo has also been the first time since college that I have been able to be consistent in coming to the gym. Part of that for me is because there is a sense of accountability when you get to know the people you’re working out with. I love that about CrossFit and Hippo specifically! The coaches and members are all positive, hard-working people so it’s easy to want to come spend time around them.
10. WHAT MAKES CROSSFIT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER FITNESS PROGRAMS THAT YOU’VE TRIED IN THE PAST?
As a former collegiate athlete, I’m used to my workouts being written for me so CrossFit is a perfect replacement for that. I also love training in a team environment because suffering and getting better with others is always more fun than doing it alone! I also LOVE that anyone can come to CrossFit and get a great workout in no matter where they fall on the fitness/ athletics scale.
11. IF YOU COULD CREATE A WOD, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE?
Hmm.. descending ladder of burpees and hang power cleans or snatches. 10-1. That actually sounds awful but maybe kinda fun? I just like descending ladders because I convince myself that it will get easier as I go since the reps are going down but really, it’s still very hard.
12. WHEN YOU’RE NOT AT CROSSFIT, WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO? Cook and watch sports or whatever show my fiancé and I are binging at the time! Also shop… I love to shop but I’m trying to quit. OH and also plan/ look at all things wedding on pinterest/ Instagram/ interwebs.
